1900 Hotel

The Story

I am a 19th-century seafront neoclassical mansion. A true architectural gem. Through careful and thoughtful restoration, my architect and owner, Dimitris Zographos, has kept my heritage alive, offering you the chance to relive a modern version of my history. Welcome to a pure, authentic sensory experience. I remain nearly intact, yet I seamlessly cater to today’s need for comfort and simple luxury, without compromising the impeccable aesthetics crafted by my visionary “alchemists”. My high painted ceilings and walls overflow with vibrant colors and breathtaking details. Vintage elements harmonize with my charming ambiance, while unobstructed views of perhaps the most beautiful port in Greece instill a profound sense of freedom and wanderlust. Through my large openings and perfectly positioned structure, you become a private spectator of the amphitheatrical, colorful, and vibrant stage that is the harbor. As you walk through my fabulous interiors, you will strongly feel the heavenly allure of a bygone era. Yet, this time, it is your story being written here. My stunning simplicity places you at the center, making you the protagonist of this enchanting tale. I introduce a new concept of accommodation, a personalised approach that respects your privacy yet lets you explore the land and waters of Symi like a genuine islander. The main rooms of my house have been transformed into four elegant suites, each soaked in history. On the entrance level, there is a courtyard surrounded by lush greenery, framing the Aegean blue. Crossing my main wooden deep green door, you face the beautifully painted ceilings. On the same level are suites 1901 and 1902, as well as an all-day self-serve healthy Treat Bar, prepared daily with love, local goods, and fresh summer fruit. The top floor consists of two more suites, 1903 and 1904, and the most amazing terrace of the harbour. An Honesty Bar is located at my stair landing, on the corner where musicians once played and accompanied the family and friends lounging on the terrace. The best drinks and highlighted moments still happen here. Once you enter, you will stare in awe. Then, you will immediately realise how good it feels to be here, your senses will awaken, your spirit will be lifted, and you will unwind in full privacy. Lifelong memories will be created and heartfelt promises to return will be made. For I dare say, I am a place that, once seen and felt, can hardly be forgotten. The History

I am proud to be known as the historical Mastoridis Mansion, a listed 19th-century neoclassical building. My story begins with Mastoridis, a captain who brought the first autonomous diving suit (“scafandro”) from the West Indies to Greece and Symi in 1862. It was given to him as a present by the British. The plot of the story thickens as it was his wife, a woman back in 1862, who had the courage -defying societal norms- to try it for the first time in front of men, who were reluctant to do so. This heroic act historically marked the year of Symi’s flourishing economic rise and it was this very incident that changed the economic landscape of the Dodecanese Islands.
